Just in case you good folks at the archives haven't noticed (ha ha), there's a problem going on hereabouts.

It's not trolls per se, unless there are a heck of a lot of bizarro trolls out there all of a sudden. (Touched Heads?)

It's trolls with multiple handles. Or a single troll with multiple handles. Or the suspicion thereof.

I'm no IT person, but I'm assuming it's not exactly hard to look at IP addresses and confirm if the creation of handles like "GD Forum Moderator" or handles meant to look like (and hence harrass) forum regulars is from the same IP address. If so, either (a) please ban the IP address, or (b) please ban it from having more than one handle.

Obviously part of the reason that certain threads grow is that folks can't resist feeding the troll with snappy one-liners or poopy-face images. OK, so that will happen.

But right now it's as if we're at a show and the troll isn't just some off-the-wall guy raving away who you can ignore or engage with or shout "poopy face!" at or not. He appears to be some guy who keeps crawling under the seats and putting on different wigs and popping up in front of folks, over and over and over and over, so that all over the auditorium we keep hearing shouts of "poopy face! poopy face!" until no one can even hear the music.

Sheesh. Calling for security is the last thing most of us like to do. But really. If it's one guy, please handle it. If not, I'd sure be curious to know if we've been invaded by gate-crashing Touched Heads.

Thanks so much for your amazing work with the Archives, which is an extraordinary public service and a great expression of freedom of the internet, freedom of information -- and, well, freedom. We all appreciate your hard work and hands-off philosophy, including with this virtual silly bus that tags along after the great music you provide on the Archives.

One of the perceived issues here-in at these parts is the fact that it's July, month of the solar flare, now a Dark Moon and folk's somehow forget that some of the Grateful Deads music is all about chaos, not necessarily musicality, a controlled chaos none-the-less, folks have been freakin out to this shit for 46 fucking years now.

Therefore when you separate the chaos from the science, you'll find a moderate audience who remains impartial to the propaganda on the internet.

"If i didn't hear it and see it with mine own eyes, it probably isn't the truth".

It would appear that certain Forum regulars only gather here to shoot the breeze, make dick jokes and through their own admission not participate in GD/music related conversations (or in fairness, very rarely). Why aren’t you crying to teacher about that? So your suggestion is to censor this virtual library, burn the cards and issue members only jackets? Let the troll thing go or laugh at it, but this too shall pass (always does). Try and be objective to the notion that two or three ‘regulars’ stifle more quality threads than they start. I don’t see you bringing that up to the mod’s attention.

Because I don't actually care.

People are more than free to start or stifle threads, be curmudgeons, make dick jokes, shout "poopy face," act out their own sense of dada or chaos, or even be a troll. I mean, to some extent one person's troll is another person's entertaining eccentric.

The problem at the moment is the amount of space and time being occupied by what appears to be, or is suspected of being, one or two individuals with multiple handles, hence allowing them to occupy enormous amounts of space while appearing to be several posters.

Sorry, dude, but that's like being a gate crasher. Which is also something nobody really gives diddly squat about until it becomes so prevalent and obnoxious that it becomes in some sense a primary experience of the "show."

And if it's not true, and some weird alignment of the stars has just increased the troll population here, that would be nice to know, too. Then we could all shut up about you, for instance, being one of the alleged multiple personalities and you'd be free to just be a plain ol' troll and live a happy grumpy troll life here in virtual silly land.

Advice from a long time lurker... Stay away from the moors. And stay on the road. This is just a casual observation, but it would appear that these troll characters that have you all in a tizzy rarely ever seem to pop up and take residence in true Grateful Dead related threads. Skimming a handful of recent posts that actually deal with the band (TOO, Weather Report Suite part 1, Old and in the way, Comes a time and Just a wonderful show from ’71) I see only a minimal trace of troll activity. So for every one of these ‘the sky is falling’ subject headers posted out here you seem to only encourage their existence, breathing sweet life into their tiny lungs and giving them cause to beat their chests under whatever bridge they call home. I suggest you focus your attention back on the art and less on the runoff. Why does no one ever pay heed to this?

What really happened with the politics section at LSP? Why dont you tell everyone what really happened so they can understand why you are doing this.

Kochman, your new handle is far too long and cumbersome. I like Kochman better...

Una mas por favor!

It would also help if the technicians at the Internet Archive could figure out how to re-sync the actual song "time counter" with the song's actual timing on GD downloads.

Hey Kochman, you never did explain why you stole Rich's handle. What's up with that?

This is funny funny funny.

If you check out the IA home page, you’ll see that both Noise Collector and I replied to a post (or posts) that was removed. Hence, our replies don’t appear here (though they’re still on the IA home page.)

Noise Collector had written:

>The more you guys talk about them, the more they post to make you talk about them, etc, etc, etc...

>I don't think thee troll is one persons.

>I think it's 1 disgruntled deadhead from another website, one or two copycat pranksters who couldn't resist the s2miles and tito posts of yesteryear, and 1 really confused and out of place person who seems completely uninterested in the dead and just enjoys the interaction and the attention... I don't detect the same amount of maliciousness in all the ranters. Shit I have been accused of being Splue, Micah, and many others before by people who made up several logins themselves to stalk and harass me... weird shit. It's like a social science experiment. If it were me I'd be plugging my stupid videos more... oh well. Back to your flame wars and troll inquisitions.

NC may be right. I've wondered that, too.

I'd written a response to a poster (with a handle often suspected, rightly or wrongly, of being part of the Multiple Personality Franchise) who had asked why, with all the trouble in the world, I was wasting time on “trivial sheet.” I'd written:

>Because I'm procrastinating from doing real work, silly boy. This whole place is about "trivial sheet." That's the POINT. We all need some trivial in our lives. Preferably, lots of it. But on the whole, energizing and entertaining and amusingly distracting "trivial sheet" is better than yuck-infested "trivial sheet."

So, here's an interesting technical note: If you reply to a suspected troll, it may disappear here, but it will still be on the IA home page for a while. (Of course, the same thing would happen if you replied to anyone and they just happened to remove the thread.)

Now, back to the trivial sheet ...

Yeah... that was strange... the post exists but it doesnt... started a thread with a link to the post that was but isnt... I can tell the style and easily spot kochman and his logins... I even used to enjoy his over the top political rants because they made me look like a moderate reasonable libertarian.... all the fire and brimstone jingoism was funny to read. The tollundism guy first appeared in a quarell with splue which has been resolved and replaced with splues quarell with micah which I still dont understand. I was accused of being both splue and micah which made it akward becaue they are not speaking and they day I stop talking to myself is the day I go crazy.

Anyway the moral of the story is one of my songs about trolls on here... dont feed them... splue made a nice video for it, search feed the trolls, im too tired to post a link.

Good night and good luck
